PROGRAMME: |

Transfer to beginning of trail in the beech wood of
Pianacquadio. The excursion starts almost immediately in the magnificent beech
wood which is really monumental in some parts. This is a residual forest of
limited extension once containing other tree formations which covered the entire
ridge of Carpegna and which also included specimens of the European fir as well
as the beech. The excursionists reach the place in which two military jet
fighters crashed in 1984. The only sign of the accident left today is a small
clearing between the trees which is in the process of being covered by
vegetation.
The excursionists stop briefly beside a group of huge beech trees. They then
continue along the lower part of the wood which skirts a temporary stream that
is usually dry. The excursion follows a ring route and shortly the trekkers
return to the point of departure, that is the site containing information panels,
tables, chairs and the car park.
