PROGRAMME: |

Transfer to the Auro valley Auro (Parchiule) and to the
pass which divides the Metauro basin from the Valmarecchia.
The excursion begins in a mixed forest of oak and beech. At first the trail
winds along copses, then plantations alternating with flat mountain pastures set
in a park-like context, similar to an orderly succession of gardens. The
excursionists reach the Grotta della Tabussa, a cave covered up by vegetation.
In very small groups the excursionists can go into this fascinating and
unexpected cave making sure they cover themselves up as it is very cool inside.
In the past the cave used to be the hiding place of bandits especially the gang
of Stefano Pelloni who was known as “il Passatore” all over Romagna. This is
after all a remote place in which it was easy to hide. The trails we walk along
in our excursion are those once frequently used by these gangs which used the
“Alps” as a departure point before carrying out raids in more populated areas on
the plains.
The cave has been produced by the dislodgement of sandstone masses which are
typical of the northern Apennines and which therefore do not represent the usual
concretisation which characterises limestone caves. From a geological and
historical point of view it makes an interesting contribution to this most
peculiar environment.
The excursion ends after the visit to the cave.
